Volunteers are the heart of our Festival! Over the next few months we are going to showcase some of the special people who work tirelessly to help keep the Festival running.
Meet Tafriha. 2013 is her first year volunteering with the Festival.
Hey, my name is Tafriha and I’m a grade 8 student in Sprucecourt Public School. I would consider myself as an outgoing and curious person. I love to learn and participate in new things, so when my former mentor, Fathima, asked me to volunteer in the Regent Park Film Festival, I was more than ecstatic. So ecstatic, that I decided to bring a few friends along. During the summer, my friends and I helped around Daniels Spectrum. While advertising for upcoming events we met so many different people in and out of Regent Park. We really got to experience the multicultural side of Toronto and got a sense of everyone’s culture. We also got to meet so many friendly staff in Daniels Spectrum. It was overall an amazing experience!
I’ve lived in Regent Park for 8 years now. This community means everything to me. We have so many great programs and organizations, making an endless list of opportunities. Regent Park has had a bad reputation but, now as a community we are all working together to make it a better place. Living here has taught me to always look at the positive side. I don’t have much family in Canada but Regent has changed that. We have bonded so close as a community and have earned each others trust. Regent Park is one big family.
