Emerging Directors' Spotlight

Bound

Bound is a collaboration between Regent Park School of Music, ArtHeart Community Art Centre and Regent Park Film Festival, facilitated by Alejandra Higuera. The visuals were created by the participants of the ArtHeart Elder Program through a discussion around geographic, personal and political boundaries. Drawing on this theme the soundtrack was composed by the Regent […]

No Say

A joyful depiction of a young girl’s childhood takes a turn after she says “not it.” With a mixture of home-video and film footage, No Say juxtaposes the playful sights and sounds of youth with a sense of entrapment, and the violent end of innocence brought on by forced marriage.

Love Stinks

Three thirteen-year-old girls and a copy of Playgurl magazine: will they find the key to womanhood? In this ode to Degrassi Junior High and the coming-of-age films of the 80s, Love Stinks is a rare gem that will draw you into a world of bedroom gossip and closet fun!

Failing Lungs

Phoenix is a high school student who has a disapproving internal monologue, so much that she often struggles to breathe. In Failing Lungs we are confronted with the effects of stigmatization. Will Phoenix find relief?

Sour Eye Candy

Colourful and hypnotic, Sour Eye Candy is an innovative look at how we experience life in its most abstract moments. With an incredible soundtrack, unexpected design, and captivating visuals, viewers will be glued to the screen from start to finish!

Watching Tv With The Mind Off

Through dreamlike cinematography, haunting down-tempo beats, and soulful melodies, we enter the mind of twenty-one-year-old Kevin Ramroop, a Scarborough musician. Drifting in and out of the physical reality of the forest of his childhood, and his own hyper-realistic headspace, we discover Kevin’s perspective on the world and his craft of music-making.

Static

Imagine a long shot of a back alleyway with chain link fences, garbage bins and walls of graffiti. Julian is seated on a fire escape and meets his friend on what seems like an ordinary day. Static conveys the intensity and urgency of being impacted too closely by violence.
